Scalar Consulting Group Inc. is seeking to fill a Transportation Engineer, EI position in the Orlando
office. This is a full-time position.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The Transportation Engineer will support roadway design projects with Florida Department of
Transportation (FDOT) Districts throughout the state, as well as county and city governments. The Highway
Engineer will be responsible for providing statewide roadway design services on numerous projects as well
as project management for multiple task work orders.
Additional responsibilities of the Highway Engineer include:
• Preparing design plans using Microstation, OpenRoad, AutoCAD
• Overseeing the costing, estimating, planning and implementation of a project
• Conducting site investigations
• Providing technical supports for interdisciplinary analytical studies and analyses
• Developing of baseline set of standards for road design
• Participating in planning, cost development, scheduling and management of assigned projects
• Licensed as an Engineer Intern in the State of Florida
• Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited college or
• 0-4 years of relevant experience
• Legally allowed to work in the United States.
• Experience in the performance of tasks associated with transportation engineering
• Experience utilizing software including Microstation, Geopak, and OpenRoad is a
• Proficiency using Microsoft Office
• Familiarity with FDOT standards and practices
• A strong work ethic with the desire to learn and achieve.
• Strong sense of urgency and self-initiative to meet client deadlines.
• Self-starting individual, good communicator, organizational and interpersonal skills
essential to work on multiple projects at any given time under minimal supervision.
• Detail-oriented with good written and verbal communication skills with the ability to
support marketing efforts.
• Knowledge of and skilled in interpretation of engineering design standards,
specifications, and criteria.

We are seeking Structural Engineering Intern (EI) with 0 to 6 years of experience to be part of our Structures team in our Jacksonville office.
In this position, you will assist in the development of transportation design projects for clients such as FDOT and municipalities. Some familiarity with Florida DOT design policies and procedures is preferred. The candidate will work in a fast-paced engineering environment where projects may be derived from a number of delivery methods including conventional publicly bid projects and design build. Over the last two decades, WGI has delivered a variety of transportation projects including some of the largest and most complex interstate projects in the state of Florida. The intern will provide estimating support for the Estimating department. Includes putting together analysis for estimating comparisons, budget comparisons, and other comparisons as required. Intern will assist in comparing bids to estimates and budget information.
- Review project plans and specifications and conduct quantity surveys
- Develop cost estimates
- Review 3rd party construction cost estimation
- Track project historical costs
- Provide quantity survey information for estimating team
- Analyze cost data, estimates, and bids

The Computer Science Department at the University of Central Florida (Orlando, FL) will hold an 8-week, 2020 Summer Research Experience for Undergraduates (REU) on the Internet of Things http://iotreu.cs.ucf.edu/. REU students will be trained in research-based theory and applications of IoT technologies, which extends the connected nature of computing devices to objects of the physical world. The REU students will join well-established research groups under the close supervision of faculty with expertise in various IoT research areas such as smart cities, smart healthcare, and smart grids. Many of the research topics will require the students to utilize state-of-the-art techniques of artificial intelligence, machine learning, and data analytics.
REU program dates: May 18, 2020 – July 10, 2020
